A Roadmap to Polemics

It's easy to have come to think of Roma-Inter in the Italian Cup as a standing engagement that's scheduled in at the beginning of every season, but it turns out the fixture depends on benevolent scheduling and not fatalist magic. This season cup has been drawn already, and while it eliminates the possibility of yet another final with Inter it does open up the door for some very high profile encounters. The Roman derby against Lazio could be the kick-start, which in the case of victory could mean playing Juventus in the quarter finals. Dependant on another win there, and Inter doing their's, the classic final encounter will be a semi final instead.

At least it gives relevancy to the competition, which is great for the organizers, but depending on the actual scheduling has the potential to be a real pain if Roma is still in the running in the two more important competitions, serie A and the Champions League. With some smart pricing (and by I mean they should challenge themselves by asking 'How low can you go?') it's potentially some nice days for the fans against storied rivals. Expect drama.
